"What if the mightiest word is love..."

These words were asked today by the inaugural poet Elizabeth Alexander in her poem "Praise Song for the Day."

It does feel as though Valentine's Day has come early for me this year. But instead of a person, my beloved is our great country and its wonderful believers in hope.

It has been an incredible experience today watching strangers hugging in the streets, celebrating the diversity and strength of "us." This experience has been echoed in reading the wonderful comments left by fellow participants in One World-One Heart.

All of this gives one a great deal of faith in the power of lovers and dreamers in action.

Karima,

Even here it has been very wonderful. We have had our Mexican neighbors stop us to congratulate our country for electing a president of the people. To them we are a country that choose to elect the best person for the job regardless of what color he is.

This is the most wonderful sentiment I didn't even know I was feeling. Perect way to end out the (next) day. In the meantime, my own heart is warmed through and through and sending you love.

I am looking forward to watching more elements of the inauguration -- I was able to watch just a half an hour of the proceedings yesterday -- and see how various artists interpreted the vision of the future!

I agree, it has been a powerful and special time. A time of hope, celebration and people coming together. The spirit of love is quite tangible. your heart rose image is lovely.
