1000 Artists' Books

Congratulations to Castle in the Air's very own Alice Armstrong, for her books' appearance in the newly published 1000 Artists' Books: Exploring the Book as Art; by Sandra Salamony, Peter Thomas, and Donna Thomas.

Alice pioneered the binding method used to create this beautifully translucent book, and will be teaching a class on this very binding at our shop in August.

1000 Artists Books is a treasure trove of beauty that stretches one's conception of what a book can be.

Lighthearted Lanterns

John McRae surprised us today with these sublime pastel lanterns. He made them using our crepe paper, florist wire, cotton batting balls, tacky glue and dresden trim. What inspired him? The material.  He claims that there is nothing that can compare to our crepe paper. "It makes you feel like you can make anything. You can do anything!" He certainly brightened our work day! He transformed the Castle into a garden party by the simple act of hanging his festive lanterns.

Bookmaking Begins!

What better way to spend a day then making artist books in our cozy, colorful classroom? Today's class kicks off the Book as Object of Art six-class series, taught by bookmaker extraordinaire Alice Armstrong.

Alice begin's the series teaching her students how to make Japanese Flutter books.

For those of you who hold an interest in developing your artwork within the space and form of a book, there are still spots available in  both sessions A and B of the class!
